I hope you all got some great shots last night. We'll give you a little time to sort through them and in two weeks on the 18th bring in your best shots and we'll get them all together for Robert/Paul to work their magic and create a show for the kids.

Next week we have our Social Night. We'll meet in the Bridge at 8pm and then head over to the Asian Harvest for dinner. So far we have numbers for 12 of us and this should work out at €20 per head for a two course meal.

Following on from discussions last night I think most of us are in agreement that we need to push ourselves to work on portraits so keep in mind that at some stage we will be revisiting this topic in the formal mode of portraits i.e. the classic head & shoulders shot. This will be a 'Project Work' so you can do this at home. Use whatever light you wish be it natural, flash, candle, studio etc. or if you watched the link sent out from Paul a couple of weeks ago you can use the light from your mobile phone.

Speaking of Project Work we welcome it back with Reflections. We've put aside Project Work for the past few months but it's time to get back to it. For those who haven't come across this before 'Project Work' or 'Homework' is when we take a topic each week and the following week bring relative photos. We find it's a great way of developing the creative process, can take us, sometimes, out of our comfort zone (eg. if someone generally takes landscape photos but has to take a still life - they now have to take into consideration how they are going to use either natural light or new light source/s and create a composition themselves). Most importantly it gets everyone to use their cameras more often so they become more familiar with them. Bring in your images on your pen drive/stick and we'll project them from the laptop. To ease you in gently we'll give you two weeks for that as well - 18th.

The 18th will be a very busy night as it's 'G Night' - don't ask me to postpone it again - if I'm asked to postpone it again I'm gonna cancel it altogether!

And the preferred topic for the Men's Challenge is 'Movement' and will take place on the 25th along with the results from the Photo Hunt which is being held on Sunday 22nd June.

28 June 2012

Hi all,
Well, for anyone who has been visiting our website (not the blog) since April you will have noticed there are no updates on it.  This is due to the fact that my main computer has given up the Ghost and won't come back to me - but I'm still trying.  Until then I'll keep the blog updated.  I'm not used to these blog things so I never really think about this but you can find notices here until the sites up again.

So what have we been up to.  I've noticed that it was January when I last visited here - opps!  Rather than rehash it all if you're really interested you can find those details here: http://www.tbpsarklow.com/

For now here's what's most recent and coming up:

Many thanks to Beatrix from www.beatrixportraits.net/ for judging our Portrait Competition last night.  It was a good idea to get everyone to talk about their photos which made the feedback from Beatrix more individual and everyone benefits from it. Congratulations to George who came 1st with his Roman begger, Paul was 2nd with his clever thought out self-portrait, and Colum and myself joint 3rd.  So remember for next year a portrait should capture the character of the person, and throw balls at them if you have to!

The Social Night venue has changed once again - details in the email.

Apologies for no blog or updates from August-December 2011. To see those notices please go here:

Welcome to 2012 everyone, may it be filled with love, happiness and lots of
fun.

T’was a stormy night last Wednesday but some of us managed to make it to The
Bridge – most importantly the committee to write up a calendar for the next
few weeks:

First up – in preparation for later in the month we need you to help us out.
We need you to either email or write up a question you would like answered
in relation to either your camera or your photography or anything
photographic related. Perhaps your photos aren’t coming out quite as
intended and you’d like to know why? Is there a button on your camera but
you’ve no idea what it’s for? We’ll do our best to answer them all for you.

Project Work is back – yeah! So for next week – 11th Jan your work is
‘Curves’. Remember as well to bring in your ‘Still Life a la Podge’ and any
festive photos you took and we’ll have a great slideshow for the night.

Also next week Paul wanted to do a talk on Flying Dolphins but we thought
Garden Birds was more appropriate for this time of year. You may remember
Paul did this talk last March and at the time we said it would come up for
Project Work in the future. As many of us feed our little feathered friends
during the winter it’s a great opportunity to capture them in camera.

Hopefully we’ll have the return of Paul Kavanagh on the 18th. Again you may
remember Paul visited us two years ago with his fabulous show of his
climbing trips to Nepal, Wales, Scotland as well as in Ireland. Paul also
takes wildlife photographs and all going well he’ll drop in this evening to
share his work with us.

On the 25th we’re heading out on the town for some Night Shots so make sure
you have your cameras and tripods (cards and batteries charged!)

For the 29th Feb we will hold a QnA/FAQs night. As mentioned above we need
your help with this in order for it to go smoothly so get your questions in
and we can start working on them.

We’re also planning our weekend away and are considering the 11th May as a
possible date. The area being considered this year is West Clare, a
beautiful, stunning area of the country. Here we have the Cliffs of Moher,
The Burren (described as "a savage land, yielding neither water enough to
drown a man, nor tree to hang him, nor soil enough to bury him" by Oliver
Cromwell's surveyor), Aliwee Caves , Arran Islands and lots lots more (not
forgetting a few watering holes). The date isn’t carved in stone so check
your diaries and let us know when you’re available and we’ll start planning
in earnest.

Delightful congratulations to Fiona on the birth of her son recently. We
wish her and all the family all the joy in the world (and sleepful nights).
